Herbs

Rose Potpourri

    cups dried rose petals
    1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
    1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
    1/2 teaspoon mint flakes
    1 1/2 teaspoon oriss root
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Put in a jar with a tight fiting lid. Put cover on tight. Open to stir every few days. (Roses are for Love, cloves are for Love and Money, cinnamon is for healing, mint is for healing, and allspice is for healing.)

Window Box of Herbs

Plants that are great to grow together in a windowbox for children:
    Rosemary
    Parsley
    Dill
    Sage
    Thyme
    Sweet marjorim
(Parsley is for protection, Sage is for protection, marjorim for happiness, Dill for protection, and Thyme for courage.)

Depending on what you or your child's needs are, choose the appropriate herb. Then choose a method. I like to keep it very simple with children, but you may think it's important to add more to these spells.

Probably the easiest and the one that children can do themselves is the "Earth" spell. They can simply dig a hole and burry the appropriate herb while stating their need, or they can sprinkle it around the doorway of their home if appropriate to the need.

There is also the "Air" spell. Children can stand on outside and blow the herb from their hands into the wind while stating their need.

My favorite (being a Cancer,) is the "Water" spell. They can go to any body of water and sprinkle the herb into the water while stating their need.

As for the "Fire" spell, I would leave this to the older children with adult supervision. They can write their need on a piece of paper, put the appropriate herb in the paper, ball it up, and burn in a fire place or outdoor fire.

Children can also make a protective amulet with the appropriate herbs. They can cut a circle out of felt of appropriate color and fill it with the herb. Then they can gather the edges together and tie with a long cord. They can wear this or put it someplace special.
